• Glasgow, Scotland, UK. 14 March 2021.
Pictured: Alister Jack MP Secretary of State for Scotland, seen speaking via video link from London at Scottish Conservatives National Conference (SCC21) which is online due to the pandemic.

The Secretary of State for Scotland Alister Jack MP describes the roll out of Covid-19 vaccines in the United Kingdom as a “a truly astonishing achievement, a task on a scale that dwarfs anything since the war.”

Opening the second day of the Scottish Conservative spring conference, Mr Jack will also praise the role of the Armed Forces and NHS staff for speed of vaccinations saying, “along with thousands of key workers and volunteers, they truly are the best of British.”

He will also outline UK Government support for the economic recovery in Scotland, highlighting an extra £1.2billion from the Treasury along with the new Levelling Up Fund and the Union Connectivity Review.

However, he will criticise the SNP Government for their negative stance towards the extra investment and refusal to work on improving transport links across the UK.

He said that: “Time and again, the SNP have told fairy stories while playing fast and loose with the rules, imperilling the very foundations of the devolution settlement. We have seen an arrogant Scottish Government, distracted by internal bickering, taking the public for fools.”

He praised the Scottish Conservatives – under the leadership of Douglas Ross – for holding the SNP to account, forcing rethinks on flawed Holyrood legislation and dragging nationalist secrets into the open.

Alister said, “The United Kingdom has a Covid-19 vaccination programme that is the envy of the world.

“In Scotland, millions of doses of Valneva’s vaccine are rolling off the production line at a high-tech plant in Livingston, ready for approval.
