• Scottish Border, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Scotland, UK. 16 October 2020.

PRESS RELEASE:
The Protest today is directed towards the Scottish Government calling on it to close the Scottish Border to all people on non essential travel from areas of high transmission in England. It is time the Scottish Government showed some backbone and stopped the spread of the coronavirus from these areas coming to Scotland via legal travel restrictions.

The Welsh Government today will legally ban people from all non-essential travel to Wales from other areas of high transmission in England. The Scottish Government have to do the same to protect the People of Scotland on the grounds of Public Health. That also means people from Scotland should be stopped from travelling to the North of England on the grounds that they could bring the virus back to Scotland as represented by positive cases from Blackpool.

There is no anti English sentiments being expressed here but the cold hard reality that we must all behave properly to beat this Terrible Disease. I can be contacted on 07761101504 for more information.

Scottish Green manifesto to transform economy launched

Action to tackle the climate emergency and build a fairer and more sustainable economy is central to the Scottish Green manifesto, which will be launched today.

The document builds on the recent Scottish Green New Deal publications, which show the radical action needed to limit carbon emissions while protecting jobs and building a sustainable future.

It commits to phase in free public transport and a four-day week, reverse cuts to renewable energy subsidies and grow the public sector by bringing transport companies, energy suppliers and the national grid into public ownership.

Scottish Greens would revise city and region deals to make them explicitly climate-focused, and build a network of regional banks that would have community interests at heart.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Scottish Green co-leader Lorna Slater said: “This general election comes at a time of unprecedented threats to our democracy, our environment and our future.

“Our Scottish Green New Deal reports have revealed the urgent action the Scottish Government could do now to tackle the climate emergency, to secure thousands of jobs, an integrated public transport system and warm homes for all.

“But with the powers held by Westminster, we could do so much more. This election is an opportunity to push for a written constitution and citizen’s assemblies, but as an independent European country, Scotland could be an agile leader in the global effort to tackle the climate emergency.”

Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie said: “Other parties have made commitments to address this crisis in their manifestos, but their actions do not match their words. Labour, for example, have already dropped their 2030 net-zero promise and have recently opened a coal mine in Cumbria. The Liberal Democrats talk about giving councils new powers to l

Pro-UK voters should “come together” in “knife edge” seats across Scotland to back the Scottish Conservatives, the party has said today.

Scottish Conservative leader Jackson Carlaw made the call as he launched a new ad van calling on voters in Scotland to “have their say” on Nicola Sturgeon’s relentless attempt to drag the country back to another divisive second independence referendum.

It comes with two full days’ campaigning to go before voting begins on Thursday.

Mr Carlaw says today that the party will be putting its efforts towards persuading voters from all political backgrounds to “lend” their vote to the Scottish Conservatives in order to stop indyref2.

Analysis of polling over the weekend has shown that tiny swings could be the difference between the SNP winning several seats or losing a handful.

Launching the new Scottish Conservative and Unionist ad van today, Mr Carlaw said

“Nicola Sturgeon has had her say during this election campaign. She’s said she’d prop up Jeremy Corbyn in Number Ten, despite his unsuitability for the job. She’s made clear she’ll demand a second independence referendum as early as Friday. She has said she wants to hold that referendum next year, dragging us back to yet more division.”

“She has had her say, on Thursday we can have ours.”

“We can say no to a second independence referendum, we can say no to more division, and we can make Nicola Sturgeon listen for once.”
